| 内容記述 | Limestone and marble quarries in the Anan (a-nan) City, Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, have provided a large amount of marble to furnish the interiors of the historic buildings in Tokyo constructed in the early 20th century. Some of the brand names were: Kamosarasa, Hototogisu, Awayuki. It has been known that some of the quarries were only active through very short time and were closed before the World War II. On the other hand, some quarries have started operation after the World War II. The presently active quarries mainly mine the limestone for industrial use. They also mine the limestone gravel to use for the production of the artificial marble board. In this paper, the location of the old and new quarries are shown on a map. Scanned image of the section of samples from the active quarries are shown with their brand names. The reasons that made Anan City a long provider of building marbles were discussed. | |||||||||||||
