| 内容記述 | This paper proposes a provisional framework for the further analysis of Taiwan’s pluralistic ethnic construction through the lens of liminality. Three distinct ethnic strata—namely, indigenous peoples, Chinese ethnic groups, and new migrants—reflect the complex inter-ethnic interactions shaped by Taiwan’s long history. These groups correspond to different socio-political frameworks: the pre-state fluid lifestyles of the “barbarian zone” (J. Scott), the modern nationalism associated with Chinese ethnic groups, and the neoliberal globalization experienced by new migrants. Drawing on ethnographic research, this paper argues that these three forms of ethnic construction, each rooted in distinct worldviews, contribute to the dynamic fuidity of Taiwanese society. The plural interactions between these modes of liminality have not only fostered the marginalization and victimization of various groups but have also served as a source of societal creativity. | |||||||||||
