This pathway is represented by displacements Q_μ orthogonal to a one-dimensional minimumenergy pathway and an intrinsic reaction coordinate q. Despite the importance of the RPH in the theoretical understanding of chemical reactions, verifying its formulation is not easy. In the present paper, we formulate a multidimensional reaction pathway based on the theory of normal modes and derive the RPH using canonical transformations.
