| 内容記述 | In the spirit of Gottfried Leibniz’s philosophical theory of monad, and its renovation by Gabriel Tarde, in combination with Brian Moeran’s ethnographic exposition of Japanese cosmology, Aoyagi will demonstrate how musical genres developed with respect to the transition of the collective sensitivity of the Japanese from groupism to self-reliance during five postwar decades as well as two decades of the new millennium. This is a preliminary but well attended case study, which spanned over the last ten years, with empirical supports from my informants in a series of co-examinations conducted in the Japanese music industry as well as in experimental workshops held in Japanese universities. For many years, studies of Japanese pop music tended to focus on anecdotal descriptions of certain examples selected by their researchers. Aoyagi wanted to go beyond such an inferential shortcoming by putting together his findings from ethnographic co-ventures with agents in the musical industry, including his own students, which utilized “monad” as a guiding concept to qualitatively quantify vast amounts of musical samples in accordance with the “collective climate of an era” – one that corresponds to the social diversification of Japan itself during the past seventy years or so. The current preliminary analysis is intended to substantiate – rather than reject – those interpretive works from the past. |
