内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The J-paddle Bike is an exercise bike that can be ridden in the water. The level of muscle activity was compared while exercising with the J-paddle Bike and an exercise bike on land. Results indicated that the average muscle activity with the upper extremities hanging, performing the breaststroke, or raised in the water exceeded 100% of the activity when performing those actions on land. The tibialis anterior tended to be highly active while exercising in the water, and a high level of muscle activity was noted while exercising in the water. The biceps femoris tended to be highly active while exercising in the water. The level of muscle activity while swinging the arms forward and swinging the arms backward on the J-paddle Bike was indicated as the ratio of activity while the arms swung backwards/the arms hung. The average ratio of activity while the arms swung backwards and the arms hung was 107.7%, so the level of muscle activity throughout the body was equivalent during those actions. The abdominal external oblique had a higher ratio of activity while the arms swung backwards and the arms hung(230.8%) than other muscles. The J-paddle Bike is an exercise bike that can be ridden in the water. The above findings indicate that the J-paddle Bike reduces pain in the lower back and knees via the effects of buoyancy. The J-paddle Bike allows exercise of the upper extremities using water resistance, but it can also condition muscles of the lower extremities. This could help to prevent falls. The biceps femoris is an antigravity muscle. The biceps femoris was highly active in the water, so the J-paddle Bike also trains the lower extremities, and this could help to alleviate and prevent frailty and sarcopenia. In addition, riding the J-paddle Bike was sufficiently effective even while swinging the arms backwards. Peddling is not normally performed while swinging the arms backwards, but even then the body twisted more than while swinging the arms forwards. Peddling while swinging the arms backwards presumably tightens the waist. Riding the J-paddle Bike in the water is a group activity and maintains one’s posture. The J-paddle Bike can be ridden continuously while combating obesity, and the Bike is presumably an effective piece of training equipment for people with problems in their lower back or knees.
